14 September Borrowby Dale work party

On September 6, Phil Trafford, Bob Clutson and Harry Whitehouse visited Borrowby Dale, on the Roxby Estate, south of Staithes.

After negotiating a dangerously unstable stile, they descended into the dale with difficulty, forcing their way through undergrowth to discover a scene of devastation around the stream course.

Mature trees had been felled into and over the stream, and it was necessary to scramble through branches to cross the only
bridge.

Below is a video of the scene. .

The problems were reported to the North York Moors National Park Authority, and on September 14, Phil and Bob were among a party of park volunteers who repaired the stile and cleared the way into the vale.

Roxby Estate has undertaken to deal with the felled trees before the end of the month.

5.10.17:  The estate have been as good as their word.  The timber has been cleared, and once spring growth clothes the banks of the stream, the dale will be looking fully restored.
